ABOUT

During university one of the assignments involved the creation of a vertical slice that required the use of speech recognition. For my game I decided to go for a simple card game in which you must play a higher card than the opponent that is constantly cheating against you. If the game were to be fleshed out further, the idea is that it would follow a similar pattern to punch out, each level would be a different opponent that would be trying to gain an advantage against you. Your job as a player would be to figure out exactly how each opponent is cheating and how to exploit that to your advantage.

Each card has a color that allows it be stronger against a different color (for example a green 3 is equal to a blue 4 while a red 5 beats a green 5). The game was developed to be played with a group of friends that haven't played it before. The opponent is constantly listening out for information it could use against you so the eventual "backseat gaming" would lead to the mage figuring out all your cards. For example, if someone were to say "play the red one" or anything similar the mage would understand that and play any blue cards it might have on his hand. This isn't explained to the player but a very important hint is dropped whenever the mage hears something, his eyes change colors, which when the player understands what is going on he can exploit that and gain an advantage to beat the level and move on into the next floor.
