REBOOT

ABOUT

REBOOT was part of the dissertation I handed in for my Game Design Degree. For the assignment we were tasking with creating an individual project, paper and presentation. REBOOT is a single player experience with the main goal of being used in the study to determine the effect of higher skill ceilings on player retention and enjoyment as I've always gravitated towards higher skill ceiling games.

GAMEPLAY

At it's core REBOOT is a simple arcade inspired top-down shooter in the "roguelite" genre. It is incredibly fast paced and punishing. The game offers a variety of different weapons, skills and perks the player can acquire to get stronger with the main goal being finishing all 15 levels without dying (3 of which are boss levels).

PROCESS

The game was created in Unity using C#, while most art assets were created in either Blender (for 3D) or Photoshop for UI elements such as the cards. Lastly the sound effects were created by a very talented sounds designer I am friends with (Bernardo Hita).

 

The game and the study were developed over the span of one semester, ending with a final presentation at the end term. Throughout most of that I was working 3 days a week as a Unity QA Engineer which led to incredibly long but satisfying hours of development, where a lot had to be done in very little time.
